Swimmers of the Week: GHWO v. Shady Hollow
Swimmers of the Week: GHWO v. Shady Hollow
The coaches spent over an hour after our meet trying to decide on the Swimmers of the Week. We have so many outstanding individuals on our team who consistently work hard, compete well, encourage others, or bring a great attitude to practice. In our inability to choose just one male and female, we agreed to award two males and two females this week. We are blessed to have so many incredible swimmers to choose from!
Male Swimmers of the Week:
Chad Lewellan - 16 years old - Chad brings much character to our 15-18 year old age group. Sporting platinum blond hair, and frequently showing up to practice in pajamas, he brings humor and fun to our workouts. Chad has worked hard this season in the pool and each week has been closer to having personal best times. He consistently attends meets and races with intensity. This week, he achieved all personal best times, AND was involved in a heroic assist (along with Clarissa Reyes) to another swimmer suffering from the heat. Noticing a Shady Hollow swimmer lying on the ground, looking unwell, he put his lifeguard training into practice and quickly got her help. In the flurry of activity, he almost missed his 50 butterfly, and with the added adrenaline, he went on to take 2nd place in his event! Chad, thanks for all your efforts at the meet!
Luke Dodson - 11 years old - During our season, each coach has mentioned Luke as someone who stands out as one of our hardest working swimmers. Bringing incredible effort to practice and meets, and constantly seeking refinement of his strokes, he has impressed the coaches with his work ethic and sportsmanship. Luke is gifted in encouraging others and expressing his appreciation. Again this week, Luke showed great character alongside his strong swim efforts. Congrats, Luke, we are proud of you!
Female Swimmers of the Week
Campbell Hardy - 6 years old - Campbell is one of our superstar 6 and unders. She impresses us daily with her improvement and ability. This week she stepped up and swam back to back heats of the free relay, to allow a team that otherwise would have scratched to participate. She then went on to win the 6 & under 25 yard butterfly, with a beautiful, legal stroke (this is rare for a 6 & under!!). Campbell, we are so proud of you!!
Kate Warrick - 12 years old - Kate spreads sunshine where ever she goes. She constantly has a great attitude, a positive and humorous approach to everything. Kate works hard in practice and has achieved some great swims this season. She is a swimmer who consistently comes to practice, and is always a delight to be around because of her sunny personality and kindness towards others. We appreciate your steady spirit of optimism and work ethic. Congrats, Kate!
Honorable Mention: 15-18 Girl’s relay
Honorable mention goes to the amazing 15-18 year old girls relay of Jessica Hartzer, Bonnie Warrick, Lizzie Hitzfelder, and Clarissa Reyes. These swimmers showed a stunning effort in their 200 freestyle relay. Coming down to the wire, anchor Clarissa appeared to have held off the Shady Hollow team for a victory. Even the timers thought our team had won. However, the watch times showed a mere four one-hundredths of a second difference. Our girls handled the disappointing situation with grace and maturity. You guys are true winners!
