Swimmers of the Week: GHWO v. Shady Hollow, JCC and Courtyard

This week’s swimmers of the week showed noteable qualities of effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship.  We had two very noteworthy males this week, so the award has been extended to include two male swimmers of the week.

Female Swimmer of the Week - Hannah Myslik - age 14

Hannah took some arm-twisting to join swim team this summer.  However, as soon as she made the decision, she has been consistently attending and working hard in practice. She is a gifted breaststroker, and has limited herself to swimming just breaststroke.  This week, however, she was unknowingly entered in the 50 free (ahem, take note parents) and willingly took on the challenge of trying a new event.  During the race, she exhibited a fierce competitive side, in one of the most exciting heats of the meet, pushing herself to a photo-finish victory in her heat.  Later in the meet, she had another amazing effort in the 50 breaststroke, again finishing with the surge of a seasoned competitive swimmer to win her heat.  To see Hannah’s competitive side emerge out of her laid-back personality has made her efforts especially noteworthy to the coaches.  Congrats Hannah!  We are proud of you!

Male Swimmer of the Week - Foster Ray - age 9

Foster is one of our gifted 9-10 boy swimmers. He has consistently improved this season, and his positive attitude is contagious to those around him.  He is a glass-half-full kid who is always showing kindness and encouragement to those around him.  In practice, he works hard, is eager to learn and improve, and embodies the spirit of teamwork.  This week, in the meet, was just another example of Foster’s incredible willingness to work for the good of the team.  His medley relay had no butterflier and was going to scratch if no one was willing.  Foster had never raced in butterfly, but in a selfless and courageous gesture, stepped up to swim.  He did a great job, allowing his team to place. His age-group parent later came to me to complement Foster on his great attitude and willingness to swim the butterfly.  Foster, your effort did not go unnoticed!  Congrats!

Male Swimmer of the Week - Will Barton - age 10

Will is an extremely gifted, yet humble swimmer.  Week to week, he swims with intensity, and executes his hard work in meets in a consistent way. His spontaneous sportsmanship is seen in every meet.   His teammates are encouraged by his hard work and as a group, the 9-10 boys have pushed each other to great, competitive races. This week Will showed up to the meet a little under the weather, unsure if he could compete.  Somehow between warm-up and his first event, he rallied his strength and managed to go on to a 1st place sweep of all the events he swam!  Each and every week Will has shown exceptional effort, intensity, and sportsmanship, but this week in particular, he showed the perseverance of a true champion athlete.  Way to go Will!

The swimmers will be awarded a PowerBar sport bag, cap, bars and a towel at Tuesday's ribbon ceremony!

Congrats to all of you!
